POS Interface/Using Square to keep Merchandise Inventory

Hi all!

I was wondering if anyone is using Square in their tasting room/gift shops/restaurants to sell merchandise (and beer)?

We are looking to move to Square but have heard mixed reviews on how it works with OB keeping a semi-live inventory mostly regarding merchandise. We need something, possibly mobile, to get people into our tour area more quickly. We have the distinct pleasure of being in GA and not being able to "sell" beer out of our taproom so people line up to get in and sometimes the line can get long. I just don't want to go with Square for convenience regarding entry and hate it for actual reporting/accounting into OB.

Anyone care to weigh in on the good, the bad and the ugly regarding Square and OB?

Thanks! Eron B.

Can't say that I have experience with anything mentioned.  I do have experience with Revel, and the experience isn't good!  With that said I doubt you will get the integration you're looking for out of Square.  But you should be able to build a template that will allow you to import the data that is exported from Square.

With that said, there is definitely room for a real player to custom design a POS around our business models.

A little late to the game on this one. But we use Square in our Beer Hall. We sell merch and beer (in numerous forms). We do tours as well, but don't use square for ticket purchases of tours since they don't have a good platform for that. As far as keeping inventory accurate, we check beer inventory for our beer hall warehouse daily through OB, merch we tend to do a little less often. We don't keep beer inventory in Square. We sell merch through the online store of Square, but you need manually change inventory levels on there to keep it accurate since we don't account for certain things through square (like giving a shirt to an employee etc.) Every now and again this causes problems when someone buys a shirt we don't actually have inventory of. Actually getting sales into OB isn't bad now that the POS Import is in play. I just create an excel file of the transactions for the time period i'm closing out, import it and the AR invoice depletes the inventory accurately.

Hope this helps and wasn't too late. happy to answer any other questions about square

Thanks so much for the input! We have decided against Square. We looked at probably no fewer than 8 to 10 systems and have decided to keep going/add on to what we already use. Our registers run cash register express through PC America and we are going to use Hartland for support and merchant services. Hartland merch rates were way better than any other system/company we looked at. So for cost sake and timeliness sake and training sake (we are in a college town and our tour game is about to be nuts) we are sticking with what we have, updating the software and adding some additional registers to get us through hopefully the next 5 years!

Again, I really appreciate the feedback!
