Seasonal beers using the same UPC but different Item numbers and Grocery Stores

Is anyone using the same UPC code for seasonal bottles/cans that ship to grocery stores?  How have you set it up in OB?  Are you using a different OB Item Code for each seasonal beer, or the same?

We have used the same UPC code but a different OB Item code  so that we could track sales data by each seasonal beer.  We haven't had many problems with Grocery Stores, as many actually suggest to do it this way due to how they do their resets based on 6 months trailing data.

But we are encountering issues with Whole Foods as they want a 1 to 1 relationship.  So my OB Item Code needs to be associated with 1 UPC code.

Is anyone shipping to Whole Foods and utilizing the same UPC code for a seasonal or specialty line of beers?  How did you set it up?

    Hi Ellen,

We do this with our seasonal beers. We have them all set up as individual items in OBeer, and they all have the same UPC code as requested by the chain stores. I'm not sure if Whole Foods is one of the chains that carry our product as we don't ship direct. But I just reached out to our sales rep that handles the chains to see if he's heard anything like this in his travels. I'll let you know what I hear back, hopefully it might help!

Hello again, here's what our sales rep had to say:

Hi Ashley! Always good to hear from you. This is quite interesting and the first I have heard of any such UPC 1:1 request. It's always been looked at favorably by all (3) tiers to be have (1) UPC to cover multiple seasonals. This may be a result of Amazon and their accounting / inventory measures.

I don't know if this really helps you out or not, but maybe it can. Good luck!
